A Word About Our Storytelling Groups …
Every year, Stillwaters Storytelling Collective recruits 2 to 3 new African-descended storytellers into a ‘core group’. The core group collectively chooses a medium of storytelling and four topics to concentrate on over a 12-14 month period. For the first 6 months, the women privately workshop their stories and then they “go public” with their stories, organising public events around these topics for anyone to attend and contribute.
In 2012, the collective bid farewell to Tinashe Pwiti and Tariro Mavondo, the founding core group members of the Stillwaters Storytelling Collective. Sista Zai remained in the collective and recruited Cece Ojany and Wadzi Machena. With the changeover, the medium of storytelling has now shifted from just public performance to also incorporate contemporary African women’s writing.
